Hot Kansas days?! Yes, please!

I really have loved living in Colorado, but there is one thing I have missed in regards to Kansas summers. Hot weather. Not just warm, summer days. Nope, I'm talking about those 100+ degree days where you step outside and get blasted with hot air. Then you go completely outside and it's just plain HOT!

And people who live in Colorado don't really understand what hot really is. Last June, Colorado Springs had a heat wave for a few days/weeks. They even broke the high record of 91 degrees set in 2006! It hit a whopping 92 degrees! It was BIG news here! Seriously.

I remember being at JCPenny and visiting with the clerk about the hot temps. Her remark when she learned that I just moved here was, "It's normally not this hot! (90 degrees)"

My response, "Compared to what I'm used to, that's not hot."

So.....when I heard of 100-110 degree days hitting western Kansas, I was looking forward to going home in June! And yes, I soaked in every moment of those hot Kansas days!

On Sunday afternoon, I clipped up my hair, put on my tanning clothes, grabbed my sunglasses, ipod and book and sat in my favorite non-windy, sunny spot. For hours. Soaking up every bit of the 100 degrees that I could. And yes, it was just grand! ;)

The theme: Be strong in the Lord!

Even though I'm not physically attending camp this year, I'm doing a few things for those two weeks. After all, after being involved so long in CEF, I just can't NOT do something! And this I can do from a state away! :)

Every year, we have a theme that corresponds to the lessons being taught. That theme is carried out throughout the week including being printed on t-shirts. This year, the Bible lesson is on Daniel and because the Olympics are this summer, we thought it would be nice to incorporate that as well. Here's the finished product, although I can't take full credit as someone else gave me some starting ideas and then I just finished it. But I do love the result!

It sports the Olympic colors (which also happen to correspond to the wordless book colors!) in addition to the theme, "Be strong in the Lord" and the theme verse, Ephesians 6:10. And of course, the famous Olympic torch. This is on the back of gray t-shirts with the front traditional camp logo on the front.

It's not diapers, it's not toilet paper, it's.....

kitchen washcloths & towels!!

Yes, another bridal shower. For some reason, the last few months have been full of these kinds of gift in the baby and wedding field.

So, instead of diapers or toilet paper, it contains all kitchen gadgets! The base is a loaf glass pan with rolled up washcloths for the first "cake" layer. Then the second "cake" layer is black rolled up kitchen towels with kitchen utensils stuck inside. A little bit of black and red ribbon in Heidi's kitchen colors completes the whole thing!

Heidi told me this sat on her kitchen counter for several weeks before she could even bear to take it all apart! :) I think I'd feel the same since it's so stinkin' cute!
