Snow? On May 11th? Seriously?!

Yes, you read that correctly! All of you from Kansas reading this and experiencing 90 degree weather today...REJOICE! It's not snowing where you are!

I know Colorado is colder, mainly do to the elevation. But snow in May....really? It just...doesn't seem...right. I'm seeing it out my window and I'm not seeming to grasp that we're really in the month of May. Although the busyness of this month should be giving me a clue.

When we left for church it was cold, but no snow yet. I was determined to still wear open sandals and spring clothing; I don't care how cold it is, it still is spring and I'm done with winter apparel (my boots were packed up several weeks ago!). By 9:30 or 10, the snow started coming down. And by the time we were out of church, a couple inches on snow was dressing all the vehicles.

I was hoping for a mistake in the weather forecast and the snow wouldn't appear. But, nope, the snow is coming. The huge wet flakes that fell to the ground were beautiful...in December only. ;) So, this is the really nasty part. It's only 33 degrees outside. But you know the wind chill factor? THAT makes is 20 degrees. 20 DEGREES in the MIDDLE of May! Can I say it again.....REALLY?? SERIOUSLY????

If you haven't noticed, you should be able to tell by now that I'm not too happy with this cold front this time of year....;)

This is the time for planting in my garden instead of seeing them filled with snow. Those little sticks you see sticking up are my asparagus plants. There's seven spears coming up this year. Hopefully they'll survive the cold. The good thing is the snow will add moisture to the dirt before I plant. However, a garden serves that purpose just fine.

So for now, until the weather warms up for good (or at least for a month or two), I'll keep my garden and flowers indoors.

And turn up the heat.

But....I'm still wearing flip flops....

How to remove sharpie marker? Pinterest to the rescue!

I have this ongoing love/hate relationship with pinterest. I will admit that I fell in LOVE with that website the very first time I joined. The ideas are endless. And if I'm not careful, the time I spend on there is endless as well.

But for this project, it was a lifesaver. I had used a sharpie marker on several Cubbies books that needed to come off. Searched pinterest and their suggestion was rubbing alcohol.

Worked like a charm. Hardly had to rub at all for that black ink to disappear. It took off a teeny bit of the blue in the background, but hardly noticeable and for this, not an issue.

Thanks pinterest! And I only spent 20 seconds on your site to find the answer! Score!! :)

From my garden

Green beans, tomatoes and lettuce. Yum! My garden has really been producing well for the last couple of weeks. I've also been able to pick several green peppers. Nice start for the first year of gardening.

Two class dvds series launched!

The last few weeks I've been in a mad dash to burn cds and assemble these two embroidery quilt dvd series. And I'm happy to say all the product material has arrived, dvds have been burned and labeled, assembly is finished and ALL orders have been shipped! Yay!

With this launch of the Floral Elegance Quilt (online class I taught last year) and MarJen for Error Quilt (online class I taught in 2007), it makes the third series of DVD lessons available. Now to move onto the next quilting project for this fall....:)

Mexican food? Yes, please!

I love mexican food. Yes, I mean really love it. Rice, tacos, taco salad, enchiladas, chips, salsa, queso....ahhh yes! Especially those taco salads with the HUGE taco shell. Yeah, it's deep fried, not the most nutritious. But ahhh, soooo good!

So, last week I made tostadas from corn tortillas by baking them in the oven. Layer on some refried beans, seasoned hamburger, cheese, lettuce and tomotoes......ahhhh, soooo yummy! Yep, it's a new mexican food favorite!

It's just UPS, no big deal!

UPS or FedEx dropping off boxes at my front door is a common, everyday thing. When I started my business over six years ago, I had packages coming 3-4 days a week. I keep inventory, so it was a constant supply of coming and going. To me, it's commonplace. Not so much to my husband. In fact, when we first got married, he was all about dropping everything and opening up whatever box was delivered. Every. Single. Time.

He'd ask me, "What did you order?"

"Don't you want to open it?"

"You mean you're not going to even look inside?"

Then last week I had to smile when there were several boxes piled up at the front door. Luke carried them inside and just put them in a pile. Didn't really look at them. Didn't even ask me what was inside. Just piled them there and then went back to what he was working on. After 2 years, I think I'm finally rubbing off on him. I think I've robbed him of the get-a-box-in-the-mail excitement. :)

As a young girl, I do remember packages being delivered to our front door a big deal. The "stop what you're doing and see what's inside" BIG deal. Many times it was just school books, but those boxes were still fun to open. In fact, when I lived in Kansas, my current UPS driver was the same one who delivered those BIG boxes of school books. He remembered my sisters and I getting excited to get those big boxes. He is a great guy. I rarely requested UPS pickups as he would stop and pick up my packages if he saw them sitting on the front porch. One of the great advantages of living in a small farming community!

Welcome to the month of May!

Yep, that' right! Snow! Have I mentioned how I miss warm Kansas weather?! ;)
